Cambria Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cambria-compatible driveway and paver systems across San Diego, with most replacement projects running $5,900-$16,520 for a full driveway replacement and $8,260-$21,240 for paver installations. Our crews carry common Cambria edge restraints, joint sand stabilizers, and permeable base components on the truck, and we can typically assess and quote within 24 hours. Most San Diego homeowners first notice trouble when pavers shift after winter rains or when the polymeric sand between joints washes out near downspouts, leaving uneven surfaces that collect water.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria’s hardscape line centers on quartz-infused paver systems marketed for residential driveways and patios, not the countertop surfaces the brand is better known for. The key identifier is the stamped lot number on the paver edge, which starts with “CAM-” followed by a four-digit production code. We’ve worked with the CAM-2200 permeable series common in Del Mar and the CAM-1800 standard interlock found in older Mission Hills installations from 2015-2019.

The OEM edge restraint for Cambria pavers is a PVC snap-in profile with a 1.75-inch anchoring depth, but we regularly substitute a commercial-grade aluminum restraint from Permaloc because it handles the clay-heavy soils in San Diego’s coastal zones without cracking. The polymeric sand spec matters more than most owners realize: Cambria ships with a 50-pound bag graded at #20-#30 mesh, but the big-box equivalent labeled “premium” is often #30-#40, which washes through the wider joints in Cambria’s tumbled finish. We source the correct mesh from our Belgard and Techo-Bloc suppliers when Cambria OEM bags aren’t available.

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Cambria Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Pavers rock or wobble underfoot. The bedding layer of crushed stone has settled or washed out, usually because the geotextile fabric beneath failed or was never installed. In San Diego, this happens fastest where irrigation overspray keeps the base saturated.
  • Weeds growing through joints. The polymeric sand has degraded to loose particles, creating voids that collect organic matter. Cambria’s lighter pigment in the sand makes this harder to spot early than with darker brands.
  • White haze or efflorescence on paver faces. Calcium salts from the concrete base are migrating upward through the joints, a sign that water is trapped below and the permeable base is clogged with fine sediment from our local decomposed granite soils.
  • Sunken areas near the garage or downspouts. The compacted base has eroded; in San Diego’s canyon-adjacent lots, this often traces to inadequate drainage slope during the original install, not paver failure alone.
  • Chipped or spalled paver corners. Cambria’s quartz content makes the surface hard but brittle against point loads. We’ve replaced dozens near La Jolla where garbage truck wheels or trailer jacks cracked the 60mm-thick units that standard passenger vehicles never stressed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Cambria driveway replacement in San Diego, our installed price runs $5,900-$16,520 depending on square footage, base condition, and whether we need to haul away the existing system. Paver patio installations with Cambria-compatible materials range $4,130-$12,980. Driveway sealing, which we recommend every 3-4 years in San Diego’s UV exposure, runs $295-$825.

Every quote is a flat written price with line-item breakdown: demolition and haul-away, base preparation with new Class II road base, geotextile fabric, edge restraint (PVC or aluminum, your choice), paver installation, polymeric sand joint fill, and vibratory compaction. We pull permits when required by San Diego municipal code and include a documented photo record of the base condition before we cover it. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation; material defects fall to the manufacturer’s warranty, which we help you file if needed.

Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts. No change proceeds without a signed change order.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s no high-tension danger here like a garage door spring, but there is a point where DIY becomes expensive redo. An owner can safely check for wobble, measure joint width, and photograph efflorescence for our review. What goes wrong: skipping the 6-inch compacted base minimum, using plate compactor rental without the protective mat (it chips Cambria’s face), or guessing the slope when San Diego code requires 1.5% away from structures for drainage.

We’ve been called to three jobs in the last two years where a homeowner’s weekend project ended with standing water against the foundation because the laser level stayed in the truck. Measure twice, document once, then we can talk price. If you’re unsure about base condition or drainage slope, call (858) 434-8926 and we’ll assess it with a free estimate.
