Moen Driveway & Pavers: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Moen-compatible driveway and paver systems in San Diego with typical installed pricing from $8,260 to $21,240 for paver driveway installation, depending on substrate condition and pattern complexity. Most Moen part inquiries we receive are resolved same-day because we carry common series components on our trucks. Homeowners usually discover a failure when water begins pooling in patterns that used to drain cleanly, or when individual pavers shift underfoot where the bedding layer has degraded beneath the Moen locking edge profile.

Which Moen Models This Applies To

Moen’s hardscape line breaks into three series that matter for San Diego installations: the Pro-Fit residential locking pavers (2016-2022, identifiable by the stamped “MPF” code on the spacer lug), the commercial-grade Terra-Lock series with the deeper 2.4-inch interlock depth, and the transitional Moen-Belgard co-branded units sold through 2019. The part number you’re after lives on a stamped metal tag at the edge restraint, or molded into the underside of the paver itself if it was manufactured after 2020.

The OEM-versus-aftermarket question comes up constantly. Moen OEM edge restraints run 18-22% higher than quality equivalents from Belgard or Techo-Bloc, but the Pro-Fit series uses a proprietary 11-millimeter locking tab that aftermarket brands didn’t replicate accurately until late 2021. If your installation dates from 2016-2020, we verify tab thickness with a digital caliper before quoting - we’ve seen three jobs in San Diego where a generic edge looked right but walked loose within eight months because the tab sat 0.8 millimeters shy. For Terra-Lock and later Pro-Fit II, the geometry opened up and quality aftermarket parts seat correctly. We source both and mark which we’re proposing on the written quote.

Signs Your Moen Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Moen Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Water pooling in previously dry channels. The bedding sand beneath the pavers has washed out or compacted unevenly, often where Moen’s edge restraint has cracked and allowed lateral spread. In San Diego’s clay-heavy soils near Mission Valley, this happens faster because the substrate holds moisture and swells against the restraint.
  • Individual pavers rock underfoot or sit proud of neighbors. The locking tabs have sheared or the edge restraint has pulled away from the header course. We see this most on south-facing driveways in San Diego where thermal expansion cycles stress the plastic restraints hardest.
  • Weeds or grass sprouting through joints that were previously tight. Joint sand has migrated out through a gap in the edge system, and the Moen paver’s spacer lugs are no longer holding uniform gaps. The root cause is almost always edge failure, not the sand itself.
  • Sinking near the garage apron or street transition. The base layer has settled because water entered through a failed edge and undermined the compacted aggregate. This is the most expensive symptom to correct because it requires lifting the field, regrading, and reinstalling.
  • Visible cracking or UV whitening on plastic edge restraints. Moen’s early restraints used a TPO blend that degraded in direct San Diego sun within seven to nine years. Later formulations shifted to HDPE with carbon black, which we’ve tracked to twelve-plus years in comparable exposure.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range (San Diego)
Edge restraint replacement, localized (under 40 linear feet) $2,950-$5,900
Edge restraint + bedding sand refresh, partial driveway $5,900-$10,620
Full paver driveway replacement with base correction $8,260-$21,240
Concrete driveway installation (where pavers are not salvageable) $5,310-$14,160
Driveway sealing, maintenance phase $295-$825

The range depends on three factors we itemize on every quote: how many pavers must be lifted to access the edge, whether the bedding layer can be reused or requires replacement, and if the base has settled enough to need recompaction. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that breakdown is written before work starts - no lump-sum mystery. Our paver installations carry the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and the photo record from our visit shows you exactly what we found before any price is set.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here. A homeowner can check the stamped model code on the edge restraint, photograph any cracking, and verify whether water drains within thirty minutes of a hose test - that’s useful information to bring to a conversation. Where DIY goes wrong is in the lifting and relaying: pavers in a Moen system are interlocked under tension, and removing one course without releasing the field properly disturbs three to four adjacent rows. We’ve been called to four San Diego jobs in the past two years where a homeowner’s partial repair created a hump that cost more to correct than the original edge replacement would have.

There’s no high-tension danger in paver work, but there is a sequencing discipline - bedding sand depth, compaction in lifts, edge restraint anchoring at specific intervals - that determines whether the repair lasts two years or fifteen.
