Ameristar Bathroom Remodeling: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

Ameristar bathroom remodeling in San Diego typically runs $10,620-$33,040 installed, depending on whether you’re refreshing a powder room or gutting a master bath with reconfigured plumbing. We stock Ameristar-compatible vanities, enclosures, and hardware, and we can usually schedule a walk-through within a day or two. Most San Diego homeowners realize their Ameristar setup needs attention when the vanity carcass starts swelling near the sink trap, the drawer slides grind instead of glide, or the enclosure walls show deflection where the substrate got wet.

Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar sells through wholesale channels, so the model data lives on a sticker inside the cabinet, usually on the door side or the sink base floor, not on the front. Look for a 6- to 10-digit SKU starting with “AM” followed by series codes: AMV for vanity assemblies, AMS for shower enclosures, AMT for tub surrounds. The critical compatibility gotcha is the rough opening depth. Ameristar vanities are often 18-1/2 inches deep, not the standard 21 inches, which means a generic replacement will leave a 2-1/2-inch gap to the wall or force you to move the supply stub outs. We’ve measured this twice in Clairemont and once in North Park where a homeowner bought a big-box vanity that wouldn’t seat.

OEM Ameristar parts are available through their distributor network, but lead times run 3-5 weeks. For hardware, slides, and hinges, we spec Blum or Salice equivalents that match the hole pattern and load rating. For enclosures, we stick with OEM because the acrylic gauge and flange geometry vary by production year. If your label is worn, we photograph the hinge center-to-center, the slide mount type (side-mount vs. undermount), and the door overlay before ordering anything.

Signs Your Ameristar Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Ameristar Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • Swollen sink base floor or delaminated sides. The particleboard substrate Ameristar used in pre-2019 vanities wicks moisture from trap seepage or overflow events. Once the board swells past 1/8 inch, the laminate separates and the structural integrity is gone. We replace with plywood-core equivalents that handle San Diego’s coastal humidity better.
  • Drawer slides that bind or drop. Ameristar’s OEM side-mount slides are rated for 75 pounds; overloaded medicine cabinets or owners leaning on open drawers fatigue the ball retainer. The slide box distorts, and then the drawer face goes crooked. We upgrade to 100-pound soft-close slides where the cabinet box is still square.
  • Shower enclosure walls that flex or rattle. The adhesive bond between the acrylic shell and the backing substrate fails, usually starting at the flange where the enclosure meets the drywall. You can test it by pressing the wall at shoulder height; if it gives more than 1/4 inch, the bond is compromised and water is getting behind.
  • Doors that won’t stay closed or hang uneven. Hinge screw holes in the particleboard stile wallow out over time, especially in high-use kids’ baths. The fix is a hardwood dowel and re-drill, but if the stile itself is delaminating, the door needs replacement.
  • Grout cracking at the vanity-to-wall joint or enclosure perimeter. This isn’t always a tile issue. Ameristar’s lighter-gauge enclosures can shift if the framing wasn’t shimmed plumb during original install. The movement telegraphs through the caulk line. We check with a 4-foot level before we quote; re-shimming adds labor but prevents the same crack in six months.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s how Ameristar bathroom remodeling pricing breaks down in San Diego:

Scope Price Range
Vanity replacement (single, stock size) $945-$3,540
Full small bathroom remodel $5,900-$14,160
Complete bathroom remodel $10,620-$33,040
Walk-in shower installation $5,310-$14,160
Tub-to-shower conversion $4,130-$11,800

The spread depends on three things: whether we’re working within existing plumbing locations, what the wall condition reveals when the old unit comes out, and whether the homeowner is reusing fixtures or replacing everything. We deliver a written price before any work starts, every time, under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. That price includes parts, labor, disposal of the old unit, and a documented photo record of the substrate condition before we close it up. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the workmanship; manufacturer warranties cover the product itself.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground here, and then there’s the point where you need a licensed contractor pulling permits.

What you can check yourself: confirm the model number from the interior sticker, photograph the plumbing configuration (center-set vs. widespread, P-trap material), and measure the rough opening width, depth, and height. If you’re swapping a vanity and the supply stops are brass compression fittings in good condition, a competent homeowner with a basin wrench can sometimes handle it.

Where DIY goes wrong: Ameristar shower enclosures are glued, not mechanically fastened, to the substrate. Removing one without damaging the waterproofing layer underneath requires knowing where the studs are and how the flange integrates with the surround. We’ve been called to three San Diego jobs where a homeowner tore out the enclosure and found black mold on the greenboard behind it, then realized they were past their depth. Also, any relocation of supply or drain lines triggers a permit in San Diego County. We pull those permits, pass the inspections, and document the permit numbers in your project file.
