Which Abodu Models This Applies To

Abodu has shipped three primary window and door configurations since 2019: the Series 100 vinyl single-hung with low-E argon fill, the Series 200 aluminum-clad casement with multi-point locking, and the Series 300 thermally broken aluminum slider used primarily on the 500-square-foot and 610-square-foot models. The label you’re looking for is a small white sticker in the upper right corner of the sash or the hinge side of the door frame, stamped with a six-digit lot number starting with “ABD” followed by the series code.

We source OEM Abodu gaskets, sash balances, and multipoint lock cartridges direct from the manufacturer’s parts depot in Los Angeles, typically with a two-day lead time. For glass units, we also spec Cardinal LoE-272 as a quality aftermarket equivalent, identical U-factor and SHGC to the original, often at lower cost and with faster turnaround. The compatibility gotcha we’ve hit twice in Clairemont and once in North Park: the Series 200 casement uses a proprietary 45-degree mortise lock geometry that standard aftermarket multipoint hardware won’t match without milling the stile, so we always verify the lot number before quoting.

Signs Your Abodu Windows & Doors Is Failing

• Sash won’t stay open or slams shut. The coil balance spring inside the jamb liner has fatigued, common after 8-12 years in San Diego’s UV exposure. The spring loses tension gradually; most owners prop the window with a book before they call.
• Condensation between glass panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed, allowing moist air into the argon cavity. In coastal San Diego, salt air accelerates this; we see it most often on west-facing units in Ocean Beach and Point Loma.
• Door sticks or deadbolt misaligns seasonally. The composite jamb has absorbed moisture and swollen, or the sill pan has settled. This is structural movement, not hardware failure, and shimming the hinges without addressing the sill will make it worse.
• Draft at the sill or meeting rail. The weatherstrip gasket has compressed past recovery or the weep holes are clogged with debris. Abodu units use a dual-fin silicone bulb seal that collects dust; compressed, it no longer rebounds.
• Visible water staining at the interior drywall corner below. The nailing flange or head flashing was not integrated correctly with the WRB (water-resistive barrier, the housewrap layer), or the end dams on the sill pan were omitted during original install. This is the symptom that demands immediate attention.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things an Abodu owner can safely check without tools: whether the weep holes at the sill are clogged (clear them with a pipe cleaner), and whether the strike plate screws have loosened (tighten with a screwdriver). Both are maintenance, not repair.

Everything else carries real risk. Removing a vinyl window sash to access the balance spring requires releasing the tilt latches while supporting the weight of the glass; dropped, it shatters and the jamb liner distorts. Replacing an IGU demands breaking the old glass, working with sharp edges, and re-bedding the new unit with setting blocks and backer rod at precise dimensions, or the seal fails again in months. Door replacement involves load transfer; the header above carries roof load, and removing the jamb without temporary support can crack drywall or worse. We don’t document this to frighten anyone.
