Which Blanco Models This Applies To

Check the laser-etched model number on the sink basin rim, usually starting with “440” for Precis or “401” for Diamond.

Signs Your Blanco Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

• Staining or discoloration that won’t clean. Silgranit is non-porous, so persistent dark marks usually indicate surface etching from abrasive cleaners or a counterfeit basin. In San Diego, we’ve traced this to clients using powdered bleach scrub on what turned out to be a knockoff composite sold as Blanco.
• Water pooling around the drain flange. The silicone seal between the stainless drain assembly and the Silgranit basin degrades with temperature cycling. In coastal San Diego, salt air accelerates this; we replace with a fresh silicone bead and a brass-bodied drain, not the stock plastic unit.
• Faucet base loosening or wobble. The Culina’s single-bolt mounting can’t tolerate cabinet flex from an unbraced sink base. In older San Diego homes with raised foundations, seasonal settling causes this. We sister the cabinet sides with plywood gussets during install.
• Low flow or spluttering from the spray head. San Diego’s water hardness runs 240-300 ppm; mineral buildup clogs the Culina’s aerator in 18-24 months. The fix is a $12 replacement aerator, not a new faucet, but most owners don’t know to check.
• Chipping at the cutout edge. Silgranit chips if the countertop cutout is made with a standard jigsaw blade rather than a diamond-grit router bit. We see this on ADU conversions where the original contractor used the wrong tool; the repair is a new sink and a properly radiused cutout.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s safe checking, and then there’s the point where you need a second set of hands and the right tools. An owner can verify the model number, measure the cabinet interior (minimum 33″ wide for a standard Precis), and confirm the rough-in height. What goes wrong: cutting a Silgranit-compatible countertop opening without a diamond router and radius template, which voids the warranty and almost guarantees a stress crack within a year. The Culina faucet’s single-post design also requires a basin wrench and a flashlight to tighten the mounting nut from below, a 45-minute job in a cabinet with a back panel, an all-day fight without one.
